FM27 cheap wonderkids

Every wonderkid list has the same problem: the best players are at clubs that do not need to sell. A 92-potential winger at Liverpool is not a cheap signing, whatever his wage says. This page is the opposite filter. It takes the same database and keeps the players whose clubs, leagues and wages make a deal possible.

The wage figures below are weekly wages from the 2026/27 database. They are not transfer fees. A player on £600 a week at a Kazakh club might still cost £8m, because the selling club sets the price, not the wage. Use the wage as a signal of the player's contract situation, then negotiate.

Tier 1: under £1,200 a week

These are the players whose contracts cost almost nothing to take over. Most are 16–18 and will need two seasons before they contribute.

Player Age Pos Club Wage
Luis Fragozo 16 AML Emelec £60
Adil Hamdani 17 AML Lyon £80
Mono Martínez 16 ST Querétaro £60
Axel Koukaba 16 DC PSG £60
Deinner Ordóñez 16 DC Independiente del Valle £60
Ângelo 17 DR São Paulo £140
Mohanad El Shamy 17 DL Al-Ahly £150
Tomás Aranda 19 AMC Boca £260
Yoon Sungjun 19 DM Kyoto £320
Rui Araki 18 GK G-Osaka £360
Leo Lemaitre 17 DC Real Madrid £440
Aymen Amaaouch 16 AMC Toulouse £560
Däulet Orynbasar 17 ST Qaırat-Jastar £620
Mikel Urrestarazu 17 DL Athletic Club £780
Andria Bartishvili 17 AMC Kolkheti-1913 £800
Eduardo Pape 17 DM Cruzeiro £990
Joshua Abe 15 AMR Liverpool £1,000

The standouts. Araki (91) and Orynbasar (91) are the two best players in this tier. Both are first-team ready by 21, both cost a fraction of a European equivalent, and both are on wages that would not cover a reserve player in the Championship.

The 16-year-olds. Koukaba and Ordóñez are 84 potential centre-backs on £60 a week. Even if they never make your first team, they are assets that can be loaned and sold.

The risk. At this wage level, the player is usually on a youth contract, which means the club can demand a development fee rather than a transfer fee. In England, that fee can be set by a tribunal. Budget for it.

Tier 2: £1,200–£3,000 a week

The sweet spot. These players have signed professional contracts, so a normal transfer is possible, but their wages are still low enough that a mid-table club can carry them.

Player Age Pos Club Wage
Ebrima Tunkara 16 AMC Barcelona £1,980
Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli 16 AMC Chelsea £1,500
Reggie Walsh 17 DM Chelsea £2,500
Emerson Nwaneri 15 AMC Arsenal £2,000
Ilies Belmokhtar 18 AMR Monaco £2,840
Laciné Megnan 16 ST Montpellier £2,960
Isaque 19 AMC Shakhtar £3,000
Amir Ibragimov 18 AMR Man Utd £3,000
Kerem Matışlı 19 GK Bursaspor £1,730
Kyllian Antonio 18 DR Lens £2,480
Mikkel Bro Hansen 17 ST PSV £1,120
Santiago Sandoval 18 ST Chivas £2,130
Marko Soldić 16 DM Nürnberg £2,470
Adri Mehmeti 17 DM New York £2,270
Matvey Kislyak 20 DM CSKA Moscow £1,980
José Reyes 18 AMC Real Madrid £1,270
Robert Turdean 16 AMC Chicago £1,790
Quenten Attigah 17 GK AZ £1,180
Daniel Nnodim 18 DR Austria Vienna £1,720

The best three. Tunkara (88 at 16) is the highest-ceiling player in the tier. Megnan (87 at 16) is the best striker value. Antonio (85 at 18) is the most ready full-back.

The English premium. The Chelsea and Arsenal teenagers are cheap in wage terms because they are on youth contracts, not because they are cheap to buy. A Premier League club will ask for a fee that reflects the potential, and the selling club has no reason to negotiate.

The work permit problem. If you manage in England, players from outside the UK need a GBE or a loan abroad before they can play. Matışlı, Nnodim and Kislyak are the ones to check first.

Wage is not fee

A £60-a-week player at a Brazilian club can still cost £15m. The wage tells you how much the player earns, not how much the club wants. Always scout the contract length and the club's financial situation before you bid.

Tier 3: £3,000–£6,000 a week

These are the players who are close to first-team football. The wages are still low, but the fees are real.

Player Age Pos Club Wage
Jayden Danns 20 ST Liverpool £5,000
Alessandro Nunziante 19 GK Udinese £4,620
Hugo Camberos 19 AMR Chivas £4,300
Harry Gray 17 ST Leeds £5,000
Antonio Arena 17 ST Roma £3,690
Jesús Fortea 19 DR Real Madrid £3,820
Zé Lucas 18 DM Cruzeiro £4,630
Shea Lacey 19 AMC Man Utd £3,500
Alejandro Gomes Rodríguez 18 AML Lyon £5,950
Tom Atcheson 19 DC Blackburn £5,000
Davinchi 18 DL Getafe £5,210
Saba Kharebashvili 17 DL Başakşehir £5,150
Abdellah Ouazane 17 AMC Ajax £4,290
Mateus Mide 18 AMC Porto £4,720
Ryan Francisco 19 ST São Paulo £3,320

The best buy in the tier. Kharebashvili at £5,150 a week and 88 potential is the cheapest route to a long-term left-back. Başakşehir will sell, and the fee is likely to be a quarter of what a Premier League club would ask for the same rating.

The ready-made striker. Danns at 20 with 88 potential is the one player in this tier who can start for a mid-table Premier League side immediately.

How to actually get a cheap deal

Three levers, in order of effectiveness.

  1. Contract length. A player with 12 months left is worth half his valuation. Check the contract before the fee.
  2. Selling club finances. A club in a league with a low TV deal will sell for less. That is why the Portuguese, Dutch, Belgian and Brazilian markets are the best value.
  3. Sell-on clause. A 10% sell-on can reduce the upfront fee by 20%. For a wonderkid, it is usually worth giving away.

The transfers guide covers the mechanics of instalments and clauses.

The work permit filter

For English clubs, the post-Brexit rules apply. A young player from outside the UK needs Governing Body Endorsement points, which usually means senior international caps or minutes in a top league. Most of the tier 1 players will not qualify.

The workaround is a loan abroad: buy the player, send him to a partner club in a league that grants work permits, and register him when he qualifies. It takes two to three seasons, which fits the development timeline for a 16-year-old.

A cheap squad that works

A realistic £30m budget:

  • Araki (£5m) as the long-term keeper.
  • Kharebashvili (£8m) as the long-term left-back.
  • Megnan (£4m) as the project striker.
  • Tunkara (£6m) as the project ten.
  • Orynbasar (£7m) as the striker who can play now.

That is five players, all 87+, all on wages under £6k a week, and all with resale value. It is a better use of £30m than one 88-potential senior. The wonderkid hub has the full list, and the free agent page covers the senior players who fill the gaps while the teenagers develop.
