FM27 wonderkid midfielders

Midfield is where the 2026/27 database is deepest. There are more 86+ potentials in central midfield than in any other position, and the range of roles means two players with the same score can be completely different signings.

The tables below split the pool into holders, central midfielders and attacking midfielders. Ratings are potential, not current ability.

Defensive midfielders

Player Age Club Nation Potential
Ayyoub Bouaddi 18 Man City Morocco 91
Warren Zaïre-Emery 20 PSG France 90
Christ Inao Oulaï 20 Fiorentina Ivory Coast 86
Zé Lucas 18 Cruzeiro Brazil 85
Valentin Atangana 20 Al Ahli France 84
Gabriel Moscardo 20 PSG Brazil 83
Alexis Vossah 18 Toulouse France 83
Aleksandar Stanković 20 Inter Serbia 83
Omar Abdelrahim 17 Al-Ahly Egypt 83
Jorge Cestero 20 Real Madrid Spain 83
Noël Aséko 20 Eintracht Frankfurt Germany 83
Junior Mandza 17 Nice France 83
Caleb Yirenkyi 20 Coventry Ghana 83
Elias Arden 17 Fortuna Düsseldorf Germany 83

Bouaddi is the best young holder in the game: 91 at 18, at Man City, with the passing range to play alone in front of a back four. He is also the most expensive player on this page.

Zaïre-Emery is the versatile option. He can play right-back, central midfield or the holding role, which makes him worth a squad slot even at a premium fee.

Zé Lucas and Abdelrahim are the value picks: 85 and 83, both 17–18, both on wages under £5k a week.

Central midfielders

Player Age Club Nation Potential
Thiago Pitarch 18 Real Madrid Spain 88
Archie Gray 20 Spurs England 88
Nathan De Cat 17 Hoffenheim Belgium 87
Myles Lewis-Skelly 19 Arsenal England 87
Lucas Bergvall 20 Spurs Sweden 87
Kennet Eichhorn 16 Leverkusen Germany 87
Senny Mayulu 20 PSG France 87
Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli 16 Chelsea England 86
Marc Bernal 19 Barcelona Spain 86
Lewis Miley 20 Newcastle England 86
Josh King 19 Fulham England 86
Victor Froholdt 20 Porto Denmark 86
Reggie Walsh 17 Chelsea England 86
Carlos Macià 17 Villarreal Spain 85

This is the strongest position in the database. There are fourteen players at 85 or above, and the cheapest of them, Macià at Villarreal, would still cost a mid-table club most of its budget.

Gray and Bergvall are the two most ready for Premier League football. Both have senior minutes, both can play multiple midfield roles, and both are at clubs that will sell at the right price.

Eichhorn at 16 with 87 potential is the long-term pick. He will not contribute for two seasons, but he is the kind of player who becomes a starter at 21 and stays there for a decade.

Nicoll-Jazuli and Walsh are the Chelsea pair: 16 and 17, 86 potential, wages under £3k. They are the best value in the position if you can persuade Chelsea to sell.

Attacking midfielders

Player Age Club Nation Potential
Max Dowman 16 Arsenal England 94
Luca Williams-Barnett 17 Spurs England 92
Franco Mastantuono 18 Real Madrid Argentina 92
Rodrigo Mora 19 Roma Portugal 91
Can Uzun 20 Eintracht Frankfurt Türkiye 91
Gilberto Mora 17 Tijuana Mexico 91
Abdellah Ouazane 17 Ajax Morocco 91
Kerim Alajbegović 18 Juventus Bosnia 90
Dro 18 PSG Spain 89
Lennart Karl 18 Bayern Germany 89
Konstantinos Karetsas 18 Dortmund Greece 89
Assan Ouédraogo 20 RB Leipzig Germany 88
Mateus Mide 18 Porto Portugal 88
Ibrahim Maza 20 Leverkusen Algeria 88

Dowman is the highest-rated teenager in the game after Yamal. A 16-year-old number ten at Arsenal with a 94 ceiling is a generational talent, and the fee reflects it.

Mastantuono is the most complete of the group: 92 at 18, already in Real Madrid's squad, able to play wide or centrally. He is the safest bet to reach his ceiling.

Gilberto Mora and Ouazane are the value picks at 91. Mora is at Tijuana, which means a Mexican club fee rather than a European one; Ouazane is at Ajax, which means a development fee rather than a superstar fee.

Role fit is the whole decision

The engine does not care that a player is a number ten. It cares whether he can do the job you ask.

  • Deep-lying playmaker: passing, vision, composure. Bouaddi, Pitarch, Bernal.
  • Ball-winning midfielder: tackling, work rate, aggression. Yirenkyi, Stanković, Vossah.
  • Box-to-box: stamina, work rate, finishing. Gray, Bergvall, Mayulu.
  • Advanced playmaker: close control, vision, decisions. Dowman, Mastantuono, Mora.
  • Shadow striker: off the ball, finishing, anticipation. Uzun, Alajbegović, Karetsas.

A 90-potential advanced playmaker played as a ball-winner is a 75-potential player. The Tactical Effectiveness guide explains why the gauge notices.

Check the physical profile before the technical one

A midfielder with 9 stamina cannot press for ninety minutes, however good his passing is. In FM27 the engine punishes a midfielder who cannot run more than one who cannot tackle.

Building a midfield three

The most reliable structure in the game is one holder, one runner and one creator.

  • Holder: Bouaddi, Zaïre-Emery, Inao Oulaï.
  • Runner: Gray, Bergvall, Mayulu.
  • Creator: Dowman, Mastantuono, Mora.

If you can only afford one elite midfielder, buy the creator. A good holder can be found for £10m; a good number ten cannot.

Development notes

Midfielders need minutes more than any other position, because their decisions improve with experience. A 17-year-old with 87 potential who plays 30 senior games will overtake a 19-year-old with 90 potential who plays under-21 football.

The individual focus should target the role's weakest key attribute, and the mentor should be a senior player with a similar role. The training guide covers the individual programme.

Who to avoid

The number ten who cannot press. If your system presses, a ten with 8 work rate is a passenger.

The 20-year-old at a club with five better midfielders. He will not play, and his development will stall.

The midfielder with no position. Versatility is useful at 25, not at 18. A teenager who plays four roles badly is worse than one who plays one role well.
