A working wiki for Football Manager 27: release details, the 2026/27 database, the new tactical layer and every guide on the site.
Football Manager 27 wiki
Football Manager 27 arrives on 10 November 2026, and it is not a skin refresh. Sports Interactive has rebuilt the tactical layer around a single number the game calls Tactical Effectiveness, moved training into the main navigation, and handed the match engine a partnership with Hawk-Eye. The 2026/27 database is the largest the series has shipped.
This wiki is organised around the questions a save actually asks: who should I buy, how should I set up, why is my tactic not working, and what changed since last year. Every page is written for the retail build, not a preview event.
What is new in FM27
Four changes shape everything else.
Tactical Effectiveness. The old Tactical Familiarity meter is gone. In its place is a four-part score built from player ability, next-match information, player buy-in and tactical understanding. It is visible on the tactics, training and recruitment screens, and it moves when your decisions, results and the wider football world move. The Tactical Effectiveness guide explains each pillar.
Tactical complexity. Instructions now carry a cost. A low-league squad cannot execute a gegenpress with fifteen team instructions, and the game will tell you so through the effectiveness gauge rather than through a vague familiarity bar. Simple systems start higher and cap lower; complex systems start slow and climb further.
Tactical Tweaks. In-match changes are no longer limited to shouts. Tweaks apply a bundle of instructions at once — overload the left, push the keeper up, switch the front three — and stay active until you cancel them.
Training rebuilt. The old unit system has been replaced by match preparation and opponent-specific work. You can copy a training plan, see weekly and long-term physical load, and drill a high press or a low block directly.
The 2026/27 database
The database carries around 18 million changes and more than 1,500 competition updates, including new licensed competitions in Chile and Peru. For a save, the practical consequences are:
- Wonderkid lists are not a copy of last year. Players have aged, moved and been re-rated. Start with the FM27 wonderkids hub rather than an old shortlist.
- Contract expiry is the cheapest transfer market in the game. The free agent list covers the names worth a trial.
- Lower-league budgets are tighter than the headline transfers suggest. The lower league guide is written for that constraint.
Wonderkid guides age badly. Every table on this site is stamped with the database version it was built from, and the first thing to check is whether your save started before or after the winter update.
Where to start
If you have just installed the game, read three pages in order.
- FM27 release date and unlock times — when the store opens your copy, and what the Launch Preview includes.
- FM27 tactics guide — how complexity, effectiveness and tweaks fit together.
- FM27 best tactics — three systems with the roles and instructions to run them.
If you are choosing a club, the system requirements page matters less than the wage budget, but check it anyway: the recommended spec now assumes 12GB of RAM and a discrete GPU.
How this wiki is organised
The site has four sections.
Start here covers release, price, specs and the Launch Preview. It is the only part with a shelf life.
Tactics covers shape, roles, set pieces and the new effectiveness model. It is the part that will change most after the first patch.
Players covers wonderkids by position, the senior shortlist, cheap options and free agents. Ratings are the scouting scores published with the database, not our own opinions.
Management covers training, transfers, scouting, the academy, staff and the editor. These are the systems that decide whether a good tactic survives a season.

What this wiki will not do
It will not invent transfer fees. Wages and ratings come from the database; fees depend on your save, your reputation and the selling club's mood. Where a page quotes a wage, treat it as the starting point for a negotiation, not a price tag.
It will not pretend every young player is a bargain. A 91-potential striker at a Champions League club is a scouting target, not a cheap signing. The cheap wonderkids page exists precisely to separate the two.
And it will not tell you there is a beta. There is no closed beta this year; the Launch Preview replaced it, and it is open to anyone with a store account. The FM27 beta and free play page has the dates.
The first save
The most common mistake in a new Football Manager cycle is to carry over last year's tactic unchanged. The match engine has new defensive behaviour, the effectiveness model punishes instructions your squad cannot execute, and the AI now reacts to overloads faster. Build the first save around a shape your squad already understands, then add complexity once the gauge is stable above the halfway mark.
The second most common mistake is to spend the entire transfer budget in July. With the new recruitment view showing tactical fit, a cheaper player who suits the system will outperform an expensive one who does not. The scouting guide covers how to read that report.
Start with a mid-table club in a league you know. The game is generous with time and unforgiving with incoherent instructions.
